18 July 2011: The 450+ magnets that make up the storage ring each have their own water cooling circuit. If the flow of water to the plastic tubes pictured is reduced or blocked, the orange cone falls and a magnet within the cone trips an electric circuit that then stops the electron beam. The blockage can then be found and repaired before the machine is powered up again. Photo by Margaret Stranks.
