Diamond Light Source Image of the Week

27 June 2011: @alpower snapped a common sight at Diamond during a recent visit: a liquid nitrogen vent. The canister incorporates a heater to ensure that only gas is vented and not liquid. At Diamond, liquid nitrogen is often used to cool experimental samples and beamline components. There is a 60 tonne capacity tank on site to cater for the need and a 45 tonne capacity ready for the future as more beamlines come online and demand grows. See more images from Al Power.
