13 June 2011: The strikingly orange robot arm on I04-1 is kept busy changing samples on Diamond’s Monochromatic MX beamline. With a fixed wavelength at its source, I04-1 has been specifically designed for high-throughput experiments, collecting data for rapid structure solution using molecular replacement (MR). In academic research, high-throughput crystallography has led to the birth of structure genomic consortiums all around the world, with structural biologists now foreseeing the possibility of knowing the 3D structures of proteins of an entire genome.
