12 December 2011: During the November shutdown period at Diamond, various scheduled modifications to the machine were carried out. Including the installation of the undulator for beamline I13 - the insertion device that will generate the intense X-rays that will be used on the imaging branchline, which is due to go into operation spring 2012. The specialised equipment is carefully lowered into place in the storage ring by one of the three yellow cranes that travel around a track circulating the doughnut-shaped building.
