3 October 2011: The structure of a molecule called a six-porphyrin nanoring which looks remarkably like a cartwheel. A group of researchers led by the University of Oxford have been using Diamond’s beamlines I19 and I22 and the Advanced Photon Source in the US to understand how the geometry of the molecule relates to the electronic structure. This understanding will enable chemists to develop templates for synthesising ever more complex molecules more easily.
