12 September 2011: The red quadrupole magnets are one of the three types of magnet used in the storage ring to bend and control the electron beam. They have four copper coils that generate a magnetic field with focusing properties that control the transverse movement of electrons as they orbit the storage ring and corrects their trajectories.
